About Alyssa Sorrells, LMHC

Why I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor:

I always had an innate desire to help others and knew that whatever career I chose would need to reflect this desire. I pursued different options in college until I took an Introduction to Counseling course that immediately resonated with me. It gave me a direction to focus my efforts towards and gave me a sense of comfort in the fact that I could help others in a way that incorporated my values and beliefs. In my experience, I have truly seen the resiliency of people, the intrinsic want to better understand themselves, the willingness to work through various issues and trauma, the vulnerability to reach out for help, and the hope to make a lasting change. My passion comes from knowing that I could play a part in this process and it strives me to continually grow in this profession.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology (Cum Laude) from the University of Central Florida and from there I received a Master's in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida. I currently hold a License as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.

I have worked in various roles assisting individuals and families dealing with a wide range of concerns, to include mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. Throughout my experience I have become skilled in crisis management, suicide prevention, co-occurring diagnoses, trauma, case management, and treatment planning for adult and adolescent populations.
